Message from the Manse – April/May 2016

Dear Friends,

Spring is now very much upon us and it is a delight to see the spring flowers, and to hear the bird songs, as creation renews itself.  After a rather dull and very wet winter it’s refreshing too to see some sunshine! I am looking forward to some time away in the countryside with my son Nathanial, relaxing and enjoying the beauty.  During my holiday Rev Alistair Swanson and Charles Maasz will be conducting worship and I trust they will be made very welcome.

The season of Easter is a wonderful time in the church year as we sing the great Resurrection Hymns and consider the post resurrection appearances of our Lord. Jesus appeared to many over a period of 40 days which culminated in his Ascension, to the right hand of God, where he reigns as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  May we be blessed as we consider the convincing proofs of our Lord’s resurrection, and be encouraged that one day we will be raised too.  And may we have joy as we dwell on our Lord enthroned in glory.

The Apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 15 verses 3-8 “For what I receive I passed o to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve.  After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are3 still living, through some have fallen asleep.  Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born”.

May we be blessed as we continue to reflect on the Christian hope of resurrection over the days leading up to Ascension.
