Message from the Manse – December 17/January 18

The Advent season is now upon us!  During Advent as a church and as individuals we can prepare for Christmas by considering the idea of God drawing near and breaking into time.  Advent calls us to get ready and we can do so by asking deep questions of ourselves.  Are we ready for God to come near once again or do we need to get our lives in order?

When our Lord Jesus was born into this world at the first advent many were unprepared.  His birth was of greatest importance.  He truly was both fully God and fully human.  He was Emanuel “God with us”.

We celebrate at Christmas Jesus being born saviour of the world.  The prophet Isaiah spoke of one who would come into this world and he said “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (9: 6)

May we celebrate with true joy the birth of our saviour into this world and consider whether we are ready for the second advent when Christ will come again.

I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and New Year!
