We are now well into the New Year. 2017 will no doubt have opportunities as well as challenges for each one of us. It is good that we seek to grow in our faith and ask in all things what the Lord would have us do. On the last day of February we will have Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday falls on the first of March. So March begins the Christian season of Lent which lasts for 40 days and commemorates the forty days and forty nights which Jesus spent fasting and being tempted in the wilderness prior to his public ministry. Traditionally Christian people have fasted during Lent or chosen to give things up in order to focus their minds on God.
During Lent we can take time to ponder all that the Lord has done for us, and we can make a special effort to deepen our devotions and relationship with Christ.
May we use the season to grow and prepare for Holy Week, the last week of our Lord’s life.
