The middle of February will see us enter the season of Lent. The term “Lent” is derived from the lengthening of daylight hours which we are now gradually starting to see and no doubt welcome. Lent is a Christian season which is often accompanied by fasting and giving up certain things for a period of 40 days prior to Easter. The 40 days comes from the days that our Lord spent fasting in the wilderness prior to the commencement of his public ministry (a time where he was tempted and tried to the limits). Lent can be used wisely to consider our lives afresh in terms of our Christian discipleship that we may be renewed and be really blessed as we consider the good news that Holy Week and Easter mean. May we not just go through the motions but prepare our hearts afresh to receive all the joy that Easter brings.
Please pray for Rachel and me, as we prepare for Easter and also the arrival of a new baby!
