The last few weeks have started to feel cooler and it’s nice to see the wonderful autumn colours all around us. We are aware too that the days are getting shorter as the hours of daylight are lessening. Tonight is bonfire night and the dark sky is bright with fireworks. Later in the month the season of Advent will begin when we will ponder the implications of God drawing near to us.
Long before Jesus was born into the world Isaiah prophesied the future birth of a child and said “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned” (9: 2). And in verse 6 it reads “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace”, Jesus brought light into this dark world and he is able to bless us in these days with his presence.
There are many areas of darkness in the life of our world, but trusting in Christ can make a real difference. He brings light into our darkness even today.
