Music is an essential part of Thomas Coats, with the choir playing an important role in the life of the Church. Present for every Sunday service during the year, the SATB choir of adults are responsible for a choral introit and two anthems for each service. With weekly rehearsals, the choir are also involved in the developing concert programme. Recent anthems have included works by Haydn, Pitoni, Parry, Bruckner, Mozart, Rawsthorne – truly music from across the centuries. In previous years, the choir has appeared on both TV and radio. Recently, the Director of Music has formed a group of “occasional singers”, who are unable to commit on a weekly basis but contribute when they can to the musical activities of the church.
Since arriving in May 2008, Matt Edwards has set about developing the musical life of the church, both in and out of worship, with regular concerts throughout the year involving the famous Hill Pipe Organ, the church choir, and professional trumpeter Grant Golding. Recent concerts in the church have included performances from the Thomas Coats Choral Society together with the Kelvin Ensemble, NYCOS, Paisley Festival Choras and a “come and sing” Stainer’s Crucifixion.
